How much does a website cost in India? A straight answer

How much does a website cost in India? A straight answer

A small business website in India typically costs between ₹15,000 and ₹1,50,000, and the range is that wide because "website" describes half a dozen different jobs. A three-page brochure site is not the same product as an online store with payments, inventory and GST invoicing. Anyone quoting before they understand your scope is guessing.

Here is what actually drives the number, so you can judge a quote rather than just compare them.

What you are actually paying for

Four things move the price, and none of them is the platform.

  • Number of unique page templates. Ten pages built from three templates is a much smaller job than ten pages each designed individually. This is the biggest cost driver and the one most quotes hide.

  • Whether money changes hands on the site. A contact form is cheap. A cart, payment gateway, tax handling and order management is a different category of work.

  • Who owns the content. If you supply copy and images, the project moves. If the agency writes and sources them, that is real time and should be priced.

  • Integrations. Anything that has to talk to your accounting, inventory or CRM adds work invisible in a design mockup.

Rough bands, honestly

These are the bands we see in the Indian market, including our own marketplace listings which start from $149 for a mobile site and $449 for an advanced build.

  • ₹15,000–₹40,000 — a small brochure site, a handful of pages, your content, a solid template-led build. Appropriate for a local service business that needs to exist and be findable.

  • ₹40,000–₹1,00,000 — a properly designed multi-page site with a CMS you control, real SEO structure and performance work. Where most serious small-business projects land.

  • ₹1,00,000+ — ecommerce with catalogue, payments and order operations, or a custom web application. Cost follows complexity, not page count.

Below about ₹15,000 you are usually buying a template with your logo dropped in, and you will pay the difference later in rebuilds.

What makes a cheap website expensive

The costs that hurt arrive after launch:

  1. You cannot edit it. Every text change becomes a paid request. We treat client-editable content as a requirement, not an upsell.

  2. It was never structured for search. Shared page titles, no meta descriptions and dynamic pages inheriting a parent title mean the site is effectively invisible. Retrofitting that across fifty pages costs more than doing it once.

  3. It is slow on a mid-range phone. Most Indian traffic is exactly that. Unoptimised images lose you visitors before they see anything.

  4. You do not own it. Proprietary builders and undocumented builds make leaving expensive by design.

How to compare two quotes properly

Ask both suppliers the same five questions and compare the answers, not the totals:

  1. How many unique templates are included, and what does an extra one cost?

  2. Which parts can I edit myself after launch?

  3. How are page titles and meta descriptions handled on dynamic pages?

  4. What is the mobile page speed target, and how will you measure it?

  5. If I leave, what do I take with me?

A supplier who answers these clearly is quoting the same job. One who deflects is quoting a different one.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a basic website cost in India?

A small brochure site with a handful of pages typically costs ₹15,000–₹40,000 when you supply the content and the build is template-led. Below that you are generally buying a stock template with a logo swap, which usually costs more over time through rebuilds and paid edits.

Why do website quotes vary so much for the same brief?

Because the briefs are rarely the same job. The number of unique page templates, whether the site takes payments, who writes the content, and what systems it integrates with move the price far more than the platform does. Two very different quotes usually describe different scopes.

Is a cheap website worth it for a small business?

It can be, if it is honestly scoped as a small site, built so you can edit it, and structured for search. It is not worth it if you cannot change your own text, the site is slow on mobile, or it was never set up to be found — those costs arrive later and exceed the saving.

Does an ecommerce website cost more?

Yes, substantially. A cart, payment gateway, GST handling and order management are a different category of work from a brochure site. Budget from ₹1,00,000 upward, and expect cost to track catalogue complexity rather than page count.

How long does a website take to build?

A straightforward marketing site is typically three to six weeks from brief to launch. Ecommerce and custom applications run longer. On every project we have run, content is the most common cause of delay — not the build.

Answer Engine Optimisation: getting cited in AI Overviews and ChatGPT

A growing share of research now ends before anyone clicks a website. Google answers in an AI Overview. ChatGPT summarises. The user gets what they needed and moves on. What a Wix Studio build should actually deliver

Wix Studio can produce a genuinely fast, accessible, well-structured site. It can also produce a slow, bloated one. The platform is rarely the deciding factor — the build decisions are. After 271 completed projects, here is the standard we hold a build to, and what you should expect from anyone building yours. It loads fast on a mid-range phone Not on a desktop with fibre. Most Indian traffic arrives on a mid-range Android device on a variable connection, and that is the condition the site...

How we ranked a Chennai approvals consultancy #1 for seven search terms

Urban Liaison handles DTCP and CMDA approvals for industrial and warehouse projects in Tamil Nadu. It is a narrow specialism with a small number of extremely high-intent searches, and almost no tolerance for vague marketing. A developer looking for DTCP regularisation knows exactly what they need. The firm that appears for that exact phrase gets the enquiry; everyone else gets nothing. Today the site holds first position on Google for seven of those terms, and is cited in Google AI Overviews...
